Capital Credits

What are Capital Credits?

Menard Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit electric cooperative. The annual operating margins, or profits, are allocated to members receiving electric service during that year. Margins are based on each member's usage and are called capital credits.

Capital credits are applied each year to individual capital credit accounts and remain on file until they are refunded.

How Capital Credits are Distributed

After careful consideration of the cooperative's finances, such as the cooperative's current financial position and long-range capital improvements, the board of directors may issue a "general retirement of capital credits."

If You No Longer Have Service with Menard Electric

If you move out of our service area, please contact the cooperative with a valid address. When the next general refund is issued, we can mail your check directly to you.

Estate Retirements

According to the cooperative's bylaws, upon the death of a member, capital credits can be refunded to a member's estate. Contact the cooperative and we'll mail an estate packet to you to start the process.

Listings of Former Members

Menard Electric is searching for former members (or possibly their heirs) who have received electric service in 1982 and may be entitled to a capital credit refund check.

Please be advised the list may contain members who have already received refund checks. If you have contact information for someone on this list please contact the cooperative.

As of December 31, 2009, Menard Electric Cooperative has returned capital credits to its members totaling:

$ 5,926,116.00
