Another Ice Storm

The cooperative was hit by an Ice Storm, which began in the afternoon of Saturday December 8, 2007.  By early Sunday morning December 9 approximately 2,000 cooperative members were without electric service.  Menard electric crews worked through the night Sunday night and by 11:00AM Monday December 10 all but 175 members had power restored.  The heavy icing conditions caused trees to fall on power lines causing most of the problems.

Weather conditions changed.  Temperatures rose and branches began to fall again causing more outages.  Members who were out of service previously and had power restored found themselves without power again.  By Wednesday December 12 there were at least 20 broken poles and many locations where wires were on the ground as a result of fallen trees.  Operations were restored to normal by Friday December 17.

In addition to the cooperative’s linemen, we had crews from Clay Electric Co-operative, Coles-Moultrie Electric Cooperative and Burton Tree Service helping to restore power.  We would like to thank our members for their patience and assistance during this most recent ice storm.
